Each day from Thanksgiving through New Years will give visitors multitudes of activities. Try a carriage ride through the brightly decorated Gettysburg Outlet Mall, visit Santa on the square, try a new menu item at Sidneys or Food 101, be awed by the spectacle of +A Christmas Carol+ at the Majestic Theater, listen to a Tuba Fest on the square and of course tour the nine properties on the Inns of the Gettysburg Area 19th Annual House Tour on December 12.
Here at the Lightner Farmhouse we can give you ideas on what to see and where to go but you can also view www.destinationgettysburg.com to see the list of activities available daily. Just click on the “Events” tab on the website. A perfect day to me would be to have breakfast with us followed by a visit to the Shriver House decorated for Christmas. Then a ride to the Adams County wineries to taste their holiday selections with a stop at the Seven Springs Tree Farm for a freshly cut tree to take home. Lunch at Fidlers in Biglerville is a treat along the way. Come back for a short nap in your cozy fireplace room at the Lightner Farmhouse followed by shopping at the nearby Outlet Mall. Dinner at Sidneys or the Inn at Herr Ridge or the Dobbin House (by the fireplace) is a real treat and needs to be followed by a performance at the Majestic Theater (www.gettysburgmajestic.org).
There is truly something for everyone during this season along with fewer crowds and an unobstructed view of the Battlefield without leaves and without crowds.
We are open every night and will be happy to cook you a hot, hearty breakfast each morning. And by the way, we are offering off season discounts on the rooms. If you stay with us the weekend of December 11 and 12 you will receive complimentary tickets for the Open House Tour, a $30 value. If you haven’t tried Gettysburg during Yuletide before, this is your chance to be awed by the sights, sounds, and tastes of this most famous small town in America!h6.
