Dennis and Eileen Hoover became innkeepers in 1996, taking ownership of the Lightner Farmhouse in 2004. With a very personal approach to innkeeping, they believe each guest who enters the front door is a prospective friend.
Eileen studied American history at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and enjoys talking history with guests. With a brief career teaching history followed by years in the Early Childhood field, Eileen now volunteers for both Historic Church Walking Tours and Stories and Songs from a Civil War Hospital programs in Gettysburg. At the B&B she is in charge of Reservations, Marketing and Concierge services. Let her help with your touring plans in Gettysburg and feel free to talk history! From April through October Eileen presents a Living History talk on Wednesday morning before breakfast informing the guests of the Lightner family history and the property’s use as a Civil War hospital.
Dennis had a brief career in the Navy Band followed by many years playing trumpet with a German Polka Band. His career included ownership of an Auto Body Repair shop and towing service. Today he is in charge of gardening, maintenance and breakfast preparation.
Dennis and Eileen’s son, Jason, has joined the team as the third Innkeeper and with a former career in the restaurant world, his breakfasts are not to be missed. He and Eileen work as a team to prepare freshly baked goods and delicious entrees.
